Dialogue between wolf and lamb?
The National Press Club (NPC) of Armenia today held a discussion with representatives of political parties who debated on the country's home political developments.
In his remarks, political analyst Garik Keryan noted that the term "political negotiations" proposed by the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) is more acceptable than the term "dialogue."
"The latter is not a political category. Unlike other democratic systems, political negotiations are held in Armenia before the elections," said Keryan.
The political analyst says the Armenian people are today ripping the fruits of 2007 and 2008 elections. In the first case, the opposition was scattered, whereas in 2008 the opposition was unable to apply its resources and topple the authorities.
Republican MP Artak Zakaryan considers that the term "negotiations" is inappropriate for the given situation, since political entities cannot be called negotiating parties. He went further saying that the culture of political debates is not fully established in Armenia.
Member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) Vahe Enfiajyan stressed that his party hails the dialogue between the authorities and the opposition as a serious step to promote political culture, while Heritage Party representative Armen Martirosyan considers the dialogue as a secret deal between the Republican Party and the HAK.
People's Party (ZhK) Leader Tigran Karapetyan maintains that the authorities and the opposition are engaged in PR under the pretext of a dialogue, whereas the true political forces have appeared in the margin.
"They must leave aside their personal aspirations and ambitions and think about the public. Is it a dialogue between a wolf and lamb," he said.
