“Rhetoric will no longer be efficient”
"Postponing the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution and making rhetorical statements won't be efficient anymore," said today official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Lukashevich.
According to him, the statement by the presidents of the intermediary countries in Deauville is calling on the negotiators to come to terms, accept the proposed principles and develop the parameters for a large document that would determine a solution.
Lukshevich says the sides will be faced with a concrete objective to accept the basic principles.
"For the first time in the history of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution, the leaders of the intermediary countries have expressed a clear, definite position. Now, there is great expectation that the statement by the presidents of the three Co-Chairing countries will help the sides realize the milestone that they have reached in the current stage. We hope that the dialogue will finally lead to concrete work on the agreements," said the Russian diplomat.
On May 26, the U.S., Russian and French Presidents issued a joint statement on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at the G8 Summit in Deauville. They particularly stressed the inadmissibility of the use of force, and called on the leaders of the countries to prepare their societies for peace, not war.
"Further postponement will only call the sides' commitment to reach an agreement into question. If an agreement is reached, we will be ready to acknowledge the official adoption of those principles, support the development of a peace deal and support the implementation of that deal with our international partners," as stated in the statement.
On June 11, the foreign ministers of the three countries will meet in Moscow ahead of the trilateral negotiations between the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents to be held in Kazan on June 25.
