Deauville: the "phantom" of Dayton
"The statement issued in Deauville is the "phantom" of Dayton," this is what ANC representative, first NKR presidential advisor David Shahnazaryan said during today's press conference.
According to him, the statement that the presidents of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing countries issued on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution in Deauville clearly differs from the previous three statements.
"This statement was a clear demand to Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev," said David Shahnazaryan.
The statement also differs from the previous ones in that it clearly alludes that it is time to finish and that an adequate document must be signed."
"The side that makes an attempt to reject may be severely punished," said David Shahnazaryan as he drew a conclusion based on the latest developments of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The presidents are sure they won't have any problems with Serzh Sargsyan, but they can't say the same for Ilham Aliyev.
According to Shahnazaryan, the positions of the co-chairing countries have never been as close as they are now. The ANC representative says the three co-chairing countries may even come to terms on allocating peacekeepers in the liberated territories, as well as their mandates and the system of forces.
Shahnazaryan also believes that the only thing that the authorities have left to do is to hold snap presidential and parliamentary elections and that only a government that has the trust of the people should sign any document on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution.
According to him, Armenia must do everything possible to have Karabakh return to the table of negotiations, and snap elections may create that opportunity.
Closing the topic of Karabakh, David Shahnazaryan said he definitely saw the signing of a document soon.
"If the document is not signed in Kazan, another document, which we know nothing of, will definitely be signed at the next meeting, followed by efforts for preparing a big document."
