Heydar Alieyv was more realistic?
Heydar Aliyev, father of the incumbent President of Azerbaijan, was more realistic when it came to giving evaluations of the return of the NKR to Azerbaijan. This is what former OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair, the Russian President's authorized representative (1992-1996) Vladimir Kazimirov announced today in his speech that primarily touched upon the history of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Kazimirov participated in the international conference on "Perspectives of Peace and Security in the Region" organized by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Yerevan today.
"Heydar Aliyev didn't appeal to so many threats and pressure as does the incumbent president Ilham Aliyev who had sworn to continue his father's policy," Vladimir Kazimirov underlined, adding that the talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are moving in two directions-one of them is the maintenance of the ceasefire regime and the other is the discussions on the Madrid Principles.
In his speech, RA Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan underlined that the situation in the South Caucasus is currently unstable and may lead to an outburst.
"In its anti-Armenian rhetoric, Azerbaijan engages other countries with Turkey in first place and implements the policy for the blockade of Armenia's transportation, energy and economy," the minister announced, adding that Azerbaijan is doing everything possible to move the NK conflict from the OSCE Minsk Group to other instances.
Ohanyan attached importance to cooperation within the CSTO and support for ensuring security in the region.
Secretary of the RA Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan added that Armenia is the main partner and ally of the CSTO and is in favor of peace and consensus in the region and the strengthening of solidarity.
"Unfortunately, Azerbaijan and Turkey are showing a destructive approach toward the solution to current issues in the Caucasus. That is not instilling hope and confidence in the future development of our region with the spirit of peace and consensus. We are certain that a mutually acceptable concession is much better than nonsensical compliance," announced Baghdasaryan.
