Flowers in memory of March 1 victims
Armenian National Congress activists, HHSh board members, including Aram Bareghamyan who was released yesterday were near the statue of Myasnikyan today. They laid flowers and paid tribute to the victims of the events of March 1, 2008.
Until yesterday, Aram Bareghamyan, who was deprived of liberty in wake of the events of March 1, says his premature-conditional release was only due to the people's persistent struggle.
"The authorities are taking the issues into consideration and I believe we will reach our goal in a short amount of time," said Bareghamyan.
Bareghamyan is certain that all political prisoners will be released before the ANC's next rally on May 31. Will there be a dialogue between the authorities and the opposition and will that dialogue lead to change of power? In response, Aram Bareghamyan mentioned that thanks to the people's pressure, the authorities "have moved from ferocity to the chess board and will resign under pressure."
Aram Bareghamyan said he was transferred to the hospital after the events that took place at Freedom Square on March 1, 2008, but was then arrested at the hospital on March 7.
Aram Bareghamyan was head of Levon Ter-Petrosyan's pre-electoral headquarters during the presidential elections. He was charged with applying force against a state representative and was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
The ANC members moved from Myasnikyan's statue to Saryan's statue to mark Aram Bareghamyan's release.
