"Turkey must apologize to Armenians"
Members of the Swedish parliament, Annelie Enochsonn and Fredrik Malm, have been awarded with the Medal of Honor of the Armenian National Assembly.
The Swedish parliamentarians were awarded for their considerable contribution to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Riksdag (Swedish parliament), as well as for reinforcement and development of Armenian-Swedish inter-parliamentary ties.
The medals were given by National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan during a solemn ceremony at the Armenian parliament on April 22.
"You considerably contributed to the Armenian Genocide recognition by the Swedish parliament. Due to your efforts, Riksdag made a decision to recognize the 1915 events in the Ottoman Empire as the Armenian Genocide," said Hovik Abrahamyan.
he noted that the Armenian Genocide has not been appropriately condemned by the world community, though many parliaments and governments have recognized the fact.
The Swedish parliamentairians said that not a nation or state should treat calmly oblivion of such horrible crimes.
"We voted for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide as it came from the bottom of our hearts," Annelie Enochson said thanking the Armenian parliament speaker for the high award.
"Turkey must apologize to Armenians for the Genocide," the parliamentarian added wishing all the best to the Armenian people.
In March, 2010, Sweden recognized the 1915 mass killing of Armenians and other ethnic groups as genocide.
