Astronomers find the coldest star in the universe
Astronomers have discovered the coolest star known in the galaxy with a surface only as hot as a freshly made cup of tea. The alien sun, termed a brown dwarf, is thought to be a star that lacks enough mass for gravity to trigger the nuclear reactions needed to shine brightly.
The star was found by a group of astronomers led by U.S. specialist Michael Liu. The star, dubbed CFBDSIR 1458+10B is thought to be much colder than anything else seen.
The star is the dimmer member of a binary brown dwarf system located 75 light-years away from Earth.
