Armenian FM: "OSCE Chairman-in-Office saw no political will in Baku"
The proposal of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis to unilaterally withdraw the snipers form the line of contact caused serious anxiety in Armenia. Ažubalis did not make the same statement in Azerbaijan, which constantly uses snipers to organize provocations at the Line of Contact.
The question was addressed on Wednesday to Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian at the National Assembly.
"OSCE Chairman-in-Office did not make that spontaneous proposal in Baku, because he saw no political will and constructive approach there. With the help of Armenia he is trying to achieve some positive progress in that direction, accepting that Armenia is against the use of force," Edward Nalbandian said.
"Taking into consideration the fact that for two years Azerbaijan has been refusing to accept the proposal to pull back the snipers from the line of contact, it is, first of necessary, to work with Azerbaijan rather than with Armenia or Karabakh -countries which have already approved of the proposal," said the Armenian FM.
Asked whether Ažubalis could not have made a similar appeal to Azerbaijan, Nalbandian said that the proposal had earlier been made by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, OSCE Minsk Group and other international structures but to no avail. Azerbaijan has rejected all of them.
