Opposition HAK activist arrested in Yerevan
Celebrated boxer Samson Khachatryan, an activist of the opposition alliance Armenian National Congress (HAK), has been placed under arrest.
"The World Cup holder and Champion of Europe and USSR is charged under Article 316 (Part 1) of the Armenian Criminal Code for using violence against a government representative not dangerous for life and health," Khachatryan's lawyer Ara Zakaryan told A1+.
Samson Khachatryan was subject to detention for an alleged scuffle with plainclothes police officers during HAK's rally on March 1, 2011.
On March 13, masked men attacked Samson Khachatryan near Yerevan's Dinamo Sport Complex and drove him in an unknown direction. Later, Khachatryan was said to have been taken to the Police Department of Kentron District.
