“Coalition showed disrespect for democracy”
The Declaration adopted by the ruling coalition shows the authorities' disregard of democracy, elections and the public will, former Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian said on Friday.
According to Oskanian, the coalition forces declared openly that in the upcoming parliamentary elections they are not going to do what political forces are meant to do - to enter into open political competition".
"The coalition, which already enjoys absolute majority, intends to push out of the parliament the opposition representatives who, as it is, constitute an extremely small minority," said Oskanian.
This, according to Oskanian, will not help alleviate the already complicated social, economic and political situation in the country. Instead, it will further exacerbate the situation.
"Instead of securing the continuity of those forces which are themselves the main obstacle to improving conditions, the coalition had better secure a balance within the government, as an alternative to absolute rule. These new circumstances will further aggravate the public's disenchantment, and are fraught with harmful consequences," Oskanian concluded.
