“HAK is not going to blow up balloons”
The rally of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) started after the country's first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan mounted the rostrum accompanied by opposition leaders.
HAK Coordinator Levon Zurabyan said that among other issues, the opposition is going to "reconquer" Liberty Square that has been closed for opposition demonstrations after the tragic events of March 1, 2008.
Aram Manukian, chairman of the Armenian Pan-National Movement (HHSh), noted that after a two-month interval the opposition has resumed a series of rallies that will focus on the country's grave economic and social situation.
"HAK is a serious political force. We are not here to blow up balloons," said economist Zoya Tadevosyan.
Before the rally, the opposition honoured the memory of famed Armenian conductor Ohan Durian who died in January 2011 at the age of 87.
