The Criminal Court of Appeal today dismissed the appeal of Haykakan Zhamanak daily chief editor Nikol Pashinyan against a decision of "Nubarashen" Penitentiary to prolong Pashinyan's prison term by another four months.

As reported earlier, Pashinyan is disputing the May 25, 2010 decision of Nubarashen penitentiary chief Tigran Navasardyan who set Pashinyan's imprisonment for 3 years, 10 months and 29 days.

Pashinyan argues that that Navasardyan was wrong in his calculations and he must serve in prison for 3 years and 6 months.

Advocate Ervand Varosyan says they are going to appeal the decision.

Nikol Pashinyan was among several prominent opposition figures who went into hiding in March 2008 following a government crackdown on supporters of former president Levon Ter-Petrossian who demanded a re-run of a disputed presidential election. Pashinyan surrendered to the authorities in July 2009 and was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of stirring up "mass disturbances" (Article 225, CO) in Yerevan that left ten people dead.
