Children's cancer develops faster
Today 38 countries around the world are marking the International Children's Cancer Day with an attempt to draw the society's attention to this issue.
According to Head of the National Oncology Center Gagik Bazikyan, every year, 200,000 children ranging from the ages of 0 to 14 are diagnosed with cancer and half of them die. There are 7,500 people who are diagnosed with cancer for the first time and 80-100 of them are children.
According to Gagik Bazikyan, today Armenia has an opportunity to treat cancer through internationally accepted methods. "There are rare cases when we are unable to treat the cancer, but nearly 90% of them are treated," said Bazikyan.
Bazikyan says full treatment is possible only if it is diagnosed in the early stage, but patients diagnosed with cancer go to see a doctor late. "They come to the Oncology Center and 46% of them come late," said Bazikyan.
The oncologist notes that cancer doesn't have descriptive symptoms. It is concealed under different illnesses and all one has to do is go to monthly check-ups. According to him, cancer is spread more quickly among children than adults due to the fact that the child's organism and the disease develop at the same rate.
In the end, the experts once again called on show-business stars and different layers of society to pay more attention to pediatric oncology issues as is accepted in developed countries.
