Egyptian unrest shakes Arab world
Calls have been made in Syria to follow the example of Tunisia and Egypt and demand the authorities' resignation.
Syrian opposition groups have called for a "day of rage" protest in Damascus Friday. They are demanding reforms from the government of President Bashar al-Assad, Syria's ruler for a decade. They also call on the authorities to put an end to permissiveness and bribery in the country. Syria, like Egypt, is plagued by poverty, unemployment and corruption.
Inspired by Egyptian protesters, the opposition called for anti-government demonstrations on Friday and Saturday in the Syrian capital.
However, the organizers called for a peaceful and civilized protest saying they had no problems with Present Bashar al-Assad who enjoyed respect in the country.
At the same time, President's proponents held a march in the capital waving the national flag.
Anti-government protests were held in Yemen, Malaysia, Jordan and Lebanon.
In Malaysia, protesters conveyed a letter to the U.S. Embassy demanding Washington not to interfere in the Egyptian unrest.

Youtube posted a video in which a security van, belonging to the U.S. Embassy in Egypt, confronts a group of demonstrators in Cairo and runs over some of them. Twenty people were reportedly injured during the incident.
