People’s Party is the only opposition in Armenia
Yerevan authorities have demanded AMD 10 million to allocate Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex to People's Party (ZhK) to hold the party's congress in the complex hall.
"Since the ZhK cannot afford to pay the sum, it will hold the congress in the open air, in the vicinity of the Matenadaran Institute," ZhK Leader Tigran Karapetyan told a news conference on January 31.
During the meeting, ZhK will call for early parliamentary and presidential elections.
According to Tigran Karapetyan, more and more people are affiliating themselves with ZhK.
The number of People's Party members, according to Karapetyan, increased by 1,200 after recent rallies.
On February 22, the party will organize a youth forum to bring together young delegates from the capital and marzes.
Last week coordinator of the main opposition alliance, Armenian National Congress (HAK), Levon Zurabyan, disparaged the People's Party, to which Karapetyan said that Zurabyan is "in depression".
According to Karapetyan, the People's Party is the only true opposition in the country.
To the question, whether ZhK is attempting to "cast a shadow" on the Armenian National Congress and "seize" their votes, Mr. Karapetyan said, "People's Party has so many votes that we can give part of them to the Congress."
ALM Holding - a TV company run by Tigran Karapetyan and deprived of a broadcasting license in December 2010 - will continue operating. The company will soon launch its website.
"Thirty-nine of our employees [the staff was comprised of 84 workers] have remained loyal to me. They are even ready to work without payment," announced Mr. Karapetyan.
Tigran Karapetyan hailed A1+'s decision to sue the National Commission for Television and Radio (NCTR) saying ALM Holding is not going to do the same thing, as theirs is a political struggle.
ZhK congress is set for February 15.
