Hammarberg hesitated
Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe Thomas Hammarberg found time in his busy schedule to meet with the presidents of "A1+" and "Gala" television stations.
During the nearly one-hour closed meeting, the Commissioner for Human Rights listened to the presidents of the companies deprived of airtime.
Thomas Hammarberg was well aware of the results of the tender held by the National Commission on Television and Radio. Hearing "A1+"'s arguments, the Commissioner for Human Rights hesitated and asked why the NCTR had accepted the package proposal and allowed "A1+"'s participation after seeing falsified documents.
The president of "A1+" promised that he would continue the struggle and that those who allowed the falsifications and those charging "A1+" with falsification would be brought to justice.
President of "Gala" Television Vahan Khachatryan touched upon the digitization process. "I don't treat the NCTR seriously to talk about it with Hammarberg, but I did talk about the Armenian authorities' position," Vahan Khachatryan told "A1+".
Speaking about the digitization tender, Khachatryan only underlined that the tender was held to select the most submissive out of the submissive.
"If "A1+" opened, that would be a serious impetus for the restoration of democracy and the freedom of speech and other television stations would make efforts to be more free," said Vahan Khachatryan.
Khachatryan says he doesn't have high expectations not only from the meeting with the Commissioner for Human Rights, but European organizations as well.
