After the New Year celebrations, those trading in front of Mergelyan Institute were surprised to find out that they were not allowed to do trade there anymore. Traders say the decision to rid street trade was taken by newly appointed Mayor of Yerevan Karen Karapetyan.

"They ripped the tents, boxes and nets. Those who found a corner continue, but those who don't are sitting at home," said one trader.

There are nearly 60 traders here and according to them, this decision will leave their families hungry. The area where they used to trade is now empty and wiped out.

Traders say they are not planning to protest because they are sure that the fight will lead them nowhere.

"Pak Shuka" (Closed Market) renovation postponed

The renovation of the "Pak Shuka" (Closed Market) located on Mashtots Avenue has been postponed to May, as the market administration told "A1+".

Let us remind that the traders were allowed to do trade until the 31st of December. The market administration also informed that it had paid heed to the traders' request because the deadline for paying off their loans is in May.
