The relatives of the political prisoners and members of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) today gathered outside the Office of RA Prosecutor General for the 135th time to demand the release of the nine political prisoners.

Chanting "Serzh, go away!" and "Freedom to political prisoners," the protesters called on the authorities to free their jailed friends and punish the perpetrators of the deadly events of March 1, 2008.

Present in the event were former political prisoners and HAK representatives David Shahnazaryan, Levon Zurabyan, David Matevosyan. Zhirayr Sefilyan, Alik Arzumanyan, Lyudmila Sargsyan and others.

According to Board Chairman of the Armenian Pan-National Movement (HHSh) Aram Manukyan, the struggle is heating up and involving more and more people.

The opposition is going to spend New Year near the Statue of Saryan.

"We shall raise the same demands and call for the release of our friends. We are surprised at the impudence of our authorities who stay indifferent to the calls of the international community," said Aram Manukyan.

Speaking about the recent government reshuffle, Mr. Manukyan said it would not improve the situation in the country.

"You cannot cure the headache by dyeing hair. The resignations and dismissals were a mere imitation. All the changes carried out under the guise of reforms are ridiculous. The whole system is faulty and they need to amend it from the roots," he said.

On the eve of 2011, the protesters have one wish - to see the political prisoners in freedom before the New Year.
