The RA National Assembly continued Friday the discussion of amendments to the draft law "On Garbage Disposal and Sanitation," which has aroused serious concerns in the society in view of possible increase of tariffs for garbage disposal.

According to the draft amendments, monthly tariff for garbage disposal based on a family member will make up to 500 drams per head. In the first reading, the Armenian deputies managed to reduce the proposed tariff from AMD 1000 to AMD 500.

However, the opposition and freelance deputy Victor Dallakyan sounded against the new tariffs.

"Our primary task is not garbage, but the hungry people who seek out food in the street," said Victor Dallakyan reminding his colleagues that there are about one million poor people in the country.

Head of Heritage parliamentary group Stepan Safaryan reminded the reasons for the deadly events of March 1, 2008.

"Do you long for another public unrest? Do not force people to leave the country against their will," said Mr. safaryan.

"This is an organized crime against people. Do have mercy on our people.

This law is a mine placed under the authority," he added.

Though Republican faction head Galust Sahakyan urged the Armenian parliamentarians to vote for the amendments, the bill did not receive the necessary amount of votes to be enacted into law.
