Prosecutor changed position?

The Aragatsotni province general jurisdiction court headed by Suren Mnoyan will hear Nikol Pashinyan's protest on November 19 after postponing today's open-door trial at "Kosh" penitentiary.

Editor-in-chief of "Haykakan Zhamanak", political prisoner Nikol Pashinyan's protest is against Head of the "Nubarashen" Penitentiary Tigran Navasardyan's decision. Pashinyan says Navasardyan increased his sentencing.

"Pashinyan had been sentenced to 7 years in prison when the verdict entered into legal force, but the decision on enforcing the NA decision on "Declaring Amnesty" and attaching the number to the period during preliminary imprisonment also entered into legal force. In that case, it is clear that Pashinyan had a sentencing of 7 years without any penalty half of which had to be reduced in accordance with the decision on declaring amnesty," said attorney Yervand Varosyan.

Representatives of the criminal investigation department claimed the opposite, saying there was no violation of the law and that Navasardyan's actions were legal.
Prosecutor Hakob Martirosyan surprised the court with his position, announcing that the prosecutors haven't registered any violations.

"Synthesizing the precedent decisions of the European Court with Armenia's legislation, I find that there has not been any violation registered," said Martirosyan.
"To this day, the prosecutors have been disputing Navasardyan's decision and mentioning that it was illegal. Today we are hearing a different opinion," said the attorney, surprised.

Based on this, he petitioned to postpone the trial and continue on November 19.
Nikol Pashinyan announced that he has been kept isolated at the penitentiary since Sunday and is not allowed to have any contact with the outside world.

"Since several people couldn't be around me, the penitentiary informed that they had problems with ensuring my security. They suggested finding an interim solution for 3 days and that I had to stay in the cell alone until then. I agreed under the condition that the regime wasn't violated, but they are not allowing me to have contact with the outside world and leave the cell frequently," said Nikol Pashinyan. He also mentioned that he has addressed the head of the penitentiary with this issue, but still hasn't received a response.

Pashinyan was brought to court in handcuffs and was accompanied by several lawyers.
