Fair Trial principle violated in Armenia
"The RA Constitution and legislation provide mechanisms for judicial independence, but they do not function as was the case 15-20 years ago," lawyer Hayk Alumyan said November 10.
Today he presented a report in the EU-Armenia Civil Society Seminar on the Right to a Fair Trial and Independence of the Judiciary
"The basic principles of the right to a fair trial are roughly breached in Armenia," Mr. Alumyan told A1+.
Chairman of the Center for Law and Democracy NGO Arman Khachatryan enumerated in his report the basic conditions which hinder to exercise of the right to a fair trial - the principle of equality, the right to counsel, etc.
"We need not hope that the problem can be settled in an instant by one official. This is a ongoing process which needs constant attention," said Hayk Alumyan.
The findings and observations of the seminar will be discussed during the next session due in Brussels in December.
