Are Armenian officials linked to Russian criminal groups?
To answer the question, in mid-October the RA Prosecutor General sent an inquiry to his Russian counterpart by attaching an article published in "Haykakan Zhamanak" daily on October 14, 2010. The article named 32 Armenian officials linked to Russian criminals.

The RA Prosecutor General asked the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation to discuss the mentioned article and to provide information on the criminal cases "mentioned" in the article.

An official answer received from the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation informs that the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russia had no materials or information on the complicity of the persons ["mentioned" in the article] in the crimes committed in the territory of the Russian Federation.

Taking into consideration the public interest the office of the RA Prosecutor General informs once again that no question on the alleged cooperation of the Armenian officials with the Russian criminal groups had ever been raised by the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation during the official and private meetings.

To add, the controversial list published in Haykakan Zhamanak daily included Armenian MP Sashik Sargsyan, the brother of President Serzh Sargsyan, deputies Ruben Hayrapetyan, Levon Sargsyan and Samvel Alexanyan, Chairman of the RA State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan, Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan and Leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik TSarukyan.
