The Armenian National Congress issued a statement:

"The regime organized another assault against political prisoner, editor-in-chief of "Haykakan Zhamanak" daily NIkol Pashinyan at the penitentiary. The assault comes after the revelation and prevention of a similar government plan a month ago and there is no doubt that this wretched terrorist attempt was ordered and implemented by the heads of the regime by Serzh Sargsyan's personal order.

The government wasn't able to impede Pashinyan's activities and continues to apply the method of using its familiar criminal elements that serve as the only accessible method in these cases.

This is one of the loops of the chain of the government's "precautious" and terrorist measures to silence the press and set limits on freedom of speech which are recently being taken against "Haykakan Zhamanak" and have led to a demonstration in front of the edition. There are rumors that the government is also preparing court appeals against the newspaper. The reason is because "Haykakan Zhamanak" releases many articles that reveal the criminal links between the regime, its high-level representatives and oligarchs.

The Armenian National Congress would like to announce once again that the heads of the regime, first and foremost Serzh Sargsyan, are responsible for any pressure or assault against political prisoner Nikol Pashinyan. We call on Armenian and international legal defense organizations, particularly organizations involved in protecting journalists' rights, to raise their voices to put an end to the government's violation of the freedom of speech and the despicable raid against an internationally recognized political prisoner and journalist."
