Serbian President apologized
President of Serbia Boris Tadich has apologized for the massacres of Croatians in Vukovar. The massacres are considered as the most brutal act committed by the Serbs during the Croatian War.
Tadich is the first Serbian leader who visited the tombs of nearly 260 Croatians killed by Serb rebels in Ovchara of Vukovar city located in eastern Croatia in 1991.
According to Radio "Azatutyun", Tadich laid a wreath at the Ovchara memorial complex and said he had come to pay tribute to the victims, "as well as apologize and express pity."
Later, Tadich and his Croatian counterpart Ivo Yosipovich will lay a wreath in Paulin Dvor village where, in 1991, the Croatians killed 19 citizens of which 18 were Serbs.
Tadich's visit to Croatia is evaluated as a symbolic step toward reconciliation between both states that wish to become members of the European Union.
