Armenian parliamentarians withstood the crisis
The opening ceremony of a new oval hall in the Armenian National Assembly took place in Yerevan October 22. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and government members were present at the ceremony.
"The mission of the parliament is not restricted to legislative activity, it plays an important role in ensuring the balance of power," President Sargsyan said in his congratulatory speech.
"Together with the executive body, the National Assembly shouldered the burden of taking the country out of the financial economic crisis. It approved and implemented all crisis-management programs presented by the government.As a result of joint actions of the Armenian government and parliament, salaries of teachers were not cut, pensions were paid on time and the army's efficiency was continuously increased.
The developments of the past few years have proved the need for constitutional amendments, the viability of the amended Constitution and the solidity of Armenian statehood," Serzh Sargsyan said in his speech.
The reconstruction of the oval hall began in May, 2010. Totally, AMD 480 mln was sent during the construction.
