“Armenia is ignoring the NKR’s position”
The rumors that the time is up for ANC's rallies are nothing new for Armenian National Congress coordinator Levon Zurabyan.
"People shouldn't be active two and a half years after the previous elections and a year and a half before the next elections in any country, but there are still many people coming to our rallies," said Zurabyan.
According to the ANC member, the ANC's appeal to hold a rally at Freedom Square was denied illegally and was suggested to hold it near the Matenadaran.
"Everyone knows that Freedom Square is not just a square. It is the traditional place where Armenians show their political activity. Armenians have been holding demonstrations there for over 20 years and that is why it is called Freedom Square," said Levon Zurabyan.
The ANC representative noted that if the current government had registered any success after all this, perhaps it would not be so worried. According to him, the authorities weren't able to get out of the political crisis and the socio-economic state is severe due to corruption everywhere.
"The government is failing in foreign policy as well. Everyone got what they wanted from the Turkey-Armenia Protocols, besides Armenia. The Armenian Genocide was called into question and the border remained closed," said Zurabyan.
As far as the settlement of the Karabakh conflict is concerned, Levon Zurabyan believes that though Serzh Sargsyan declared that the conflict settlement will only be effective after including the Karabakh side, in reality his steps point in the other direction. "Armenia is ignoring the NKR's position on any issue and treats it as a region," says Levon Zurabyan.
On October 19, the Council of Europe will hold a subsequent conference on "Future of Democracy" in Armenia. The ANC coordinator said the participants from Europe may participate in the ANC's rally, which will end with a march.
