Only school of village was closed down
The only school in Pletants village of the NKR region of Hadrut didn't open its doors today due to lack of students and the teachers are left with nothing to do.
"There were three children before the school was shut down. Two of them went to Hadrut and the school couldn't remain open for just that student," says young chemistry and biology teacher Mher Musaelyan.
Many villagers emigrate to nearby communities to at least live on rent. Anna, 42, has already moved to Hadrut city, leaving her husband's parents alone in the village. The two students that moved were her children. "I have four children and have gone to Hadrut to live on rent," says Anna.
The other elders of Pletants village complain about their loneliness. Areg said that the families were forced to leave Pletants since the village was in the hands of the Azerbaijani in 1992-1994. "After it was liberated, some families returned and there are currently 50 people living in the village," says Areg, adding that there are no children, no youth, no schools, libraries or clubs.
Musaelyan says if the village continues to lack conditions and is not resettled, in 10 years there will be nobody in the village.
