The Armenian National Congress (HAK) will not resort to extreme measures during a rally of September 17 but the day will be decisive, HAK representatives announced today in Kotayk region during a meeting with citizens of Abovyan and Hrazdan towns.

Present at the meeting with Hrazdan citizens were the relatives of former deputy Sasun Mikayelyan who was sentenced to prison in wake of the deadly clashes of March 1, 2008.

The meeting focused on the opposition's upcoming rally and the recent Armenian-Russian agreement on the extension of Russian military base deployment in Armenia.

Chairman of the Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh) Aram Manukyan announced that the agreement was bound to Armenia as "our authorities did not have the slightest notion of the document two months ago."

Political scientist Arman Grigoryan who represents the Armenian National Congress in European structures said that Europe keeps the existence of political prisoners in Armenian in the spotlight; hence it is urgent that the opposition raise the issue in large-scale rallies.
