Aram Ateshian elected Patriarchal Vicar
Chair of the Religious Council of the Armenian Patriarchate, Archbishop Aram Ateshian was elected Patriarchal Vicar of Constantinople.
Twenty-five of the 26 members of the Religious Council voted for Aram Ateshian.
Aram Ateshian was born as born on 1 January, 1954 in Diarbekir (Tigranakert), where he received his primary education. He has three sisters and three brothers. During an interview with a reporter, Ateshian said he was sorry for his sisters and brothers who had been pressurized to renegade.
Aram Ateshian will be in charge of religious affairs of the Armenian community which were earlier addressed by Archbishop Mesrob Mutafian. The latter is unable to perform his duties due to health problems.
