Clinton's visit will be fruitless?
Director of the ARF Armenian Cause and Political Affairs Bureau Kiro Manoyan says the visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the region itself is pressure on Armenia and Azerbaijan.
On July 4-5, Hillary Clinton will pay a visit to Armenia and will meet with Serzh Sargsyan and Edward Nalbandyan.
According to Kiro Manoyan, two main issues will be discussed, including the Karabakh conflict settlement and the Turkey-Armenia Protocols.
"Clinton will call on and pressure the Armenian authorities to not take back its signature on the Turkey-Armenia Protocols. As for the Karabakh conflict, there will be some progress based on the principles that were published once again in the joint statement of the intermediary countries 10 days ago," said Kiro Manoyan.
Manoyan presumes that Clinton will touch upon the same issues in Baku as well because the analysis of US Security structures is that if the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations occurs without taking Azerbaijan's interests into account, there will be a greater risk of war in the region.
Nevertheless, according to Kiro Manoyan, the visit of the high-ranking US official to the region, particularly Armenia and Azerbaijan, will not give the results that she expects.
"If Clinton wants serious progress in the Karabakh conflict settlement, the visit won't help because there is no disposition in Azerbaijan. As for Armenian-Turkish relations, Clinton will be able to convince Armenia to not call back its signature on the Protocols," said Director of the Armenian Cause and Political Affairs Bureau in closing.
