The Appeals Court today denied HAK activist David Kiramijyan's advocate Melanya Arustamyan's petition to change David's precautionary measure. David's precautionary measure is imprisonment.

"There are no grounds for David's imprisonment," Mrs. Arustamyan told "A1+", noting that it goes against the International Convention on Human Rights and a number of articles of the RA Penal Code.

The Appeals Court still hasn't provided grounds for denial, but the advocate is certain that it will be a "subsequent, formal" ruling.

The advocate also demands a medical examination for David. "At the moment, David has a sharp headache and even tranquilizers don't help," said Mrs. Arustamyan.

David was arrested on May 31 near the statue of Saryan when Armenian National Congress activists were simply trying to enter Freedom Square.

"David and I were going home. He hadn't done anything. When we saw the police trying to steal journalist Ani Grigoryan's camera near Freedom Square, David tried to defend Ani," David's mother Ruth Grigoryan told "A1+". Then, the mother saw how the police threw David to the ground and beat him. "I also received some injuries as I was trying to save David."

Why was David Kiramijyan arrested and charged under Point 1, Article 258.3 of the RA Penal Code for committing hooliganism? In response, David's mother put it shortly: "It was because David is a young HAK activist."

Ruth Grigoryan demands her son's immediate release and a transfer to a city hospital for necessary medical assistance.

David's father Haykaz Kiramijyan finds that his son didn't commit any crime and was only trying to go for a walk at Freedom Square. "My son was arrested for being a free person and thinking freely," said Haykaz Kiramijyan.

He told "A1+" that he is not planning to holding his son back from the struggle. "If he plans to restore his and others' rights, I can't hold him back."

David Kiramijyan's advocate believes that David's case will be in court by July 10. For now, the advocate is getting ready to appeal the Appeals Court's denial of changing David's precautionary measure at the Cassation Court.
