The people gathered near the government building today were the former residents of Northern Avenue who didn't take part in a meeting with Mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan two days ago.

President of "Property Rights Defense" NGO Vachagan Hakobyan didn't take part in the meeting because, according to him, "no matter what happens, the mayor will not announce that his predecessors made mistakes."

He believes that by receiving the protesters in groups, the municipal authorities are trying to split them apart.

"They are trying to split us apart by finding levers, but I assure you that they will not succeed. We will fight until the end," said the NGO president and noted that as predicted, the meeting was fruitless.

"According to my sources, the mayor told the citizens to go and demand their property from the person who stole it from them, that is, Yervand Zakharyan," said Vachagan Hakobyan.

Gagik Beglaryan had a meeting with the residents without journalists two days ago and the residents were disappointed after the nearly hour and a half meeting. They weren't able to find out what the mayor had promised.

Attending the meeting was Lida Abgaryan who told "A1+" that the mayor had said that he couldn't solve their issues due to lack of funding.

"Mr. Beglaryan received us very kindly and said that the situation in the city is very difficult and that we would receive a call, if it was possible to solve the issue," said Abgaryan. As to why the meeting took so long, the residents said that the mayor was also interested in their living conditions.

Out of all the residents who were exiled from their homes in central Yerevan due to state needs, 28 have filed a case to the European Court of Human Rights and 6 of them are awaiting the court's ruling. The residents claim that they still haven't received adequate compensation for alienation of their property.
