Young activists of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) today held a protest march to the Prosecutor's Office in defence of Davit Kiramijyan, a young HAK activist taken to the police station from Liberty Square.

Before the march, the police went up to the HAK activists and urged them to keep public order. In response, the marchers said they had never violated any law.

"We shall do whatever we think is right. It is our civil right to hold assemblies and marches. And if you try to "punish" us for our appeals, it means you are exceeding your official duties," HAK activist Armen Dovlatyan told the police.

The marchers walked along the capital's central streets carrying Kiramijyan's photos and chanting "Freedom!" "Free and independent Armenia," "We are with you, Davit," "Struggle till the end!"

"Davit was imprisoned after the plain-clothed police came into a confrontation with HAK activists at Liberty Square," "Join in our struggle," the marchers shouted over the megaphone.

Near the Prosecutor's Office, HAK activists were met by policemen who banned their entry to the area.

The marchers handed a letter to the Prosecutor General demanding an immediate release of Kiramijyan.
In the letter, HAK demands the Prosecutor's Office to release the arrested people, clarify and conduct investigation into the circumstances of the plain-clothed people's involvement in the police actions," Kiramijyan's brother told A1+.

Kiramijyan's father Haykaz Kiramijyan said they were determined in their struggle and would appeal to all instance to release Davit.

Davit Kiramijyan was taken into custody on May 31 and was charged with hooliganism (Article 258 of the Criminal Code). On June 3, two months' custody was chosen as a restraint.
Davit will be 19 on June 12.
