"I didn't commit any crime"
Support A1+!"I was only doing my job," said today journalist for "Haykakan Zhamanak" daily Ani Gevorgyan as she came out of the site for keeping prisoners at RA Police Yerevan division.
Ani was released with a signature to not leave the country. She was charged under Article 316 of the Penal Code for applying force against a state representative.
"I didn't apply force against anyone. The police were constantly stopping me from doing my job at Freedom Square on May 30 and near Saryan statue on May 31. They were not letting me take photos, moving the camera, hitting my legs, my back, cursing in order to stop me from taking photos. They constantly wanted to take my camera from me and some parts disappeared," Ani Gevorgyan told "A1+".
The police arrested Ani at Freedom Square by force. "They threw me in the car and my brother Sargis was already there. The police intentionally walked over me to Sargis and started hitting him."
As far as the video posted on RA Police website, Ani noted that she hadn't seen it and, according to her, the police's claims that Ani had struck a police officer's head with her camera were not true.
"My camera is precious and I wouldn't hit a policeman with it. I was constantly using it to try to defend myself from the police," she said.
Ani's brother Sargis Gevorgyan was also released today after signing not to leave the country. He was also charged under Article 316 of the Penal Code. "I haven't applied any force. On May 31, the police threw David Kiramijyan to the floor and beat him. I simply tried to free David from the police with the fear of his life."
Sargis affirmed that he was beaten on the road to the police station, but there were no problems at the cell.
Ani and Sargis Grigoryan's advocate Yervand Varosyan told "A1+": "If a policeman violates the law and decides that certain citizens can enter Freedom Square, that is a violation of the law. The police didn't let Ani Gevorgyan do her job, but a journalist is obliged to defend her tools for the job, especially when she is beaten and hears cursing."
As Sargis Grigoryan said, he treats the charge with humor and will take part in the ANC's events starting tomorrow.
During her arrest, Ani Gevorgyan prepared several articles and is preparing to shed light on the ANC.
