Shots sometimes remain unanswered
Armenia's northeastern border is guarded by contract servicemen. This is the only working place for residents of Chambarak region.
"There is no tension at posts. People can work and live freely as we guard the border they and night," Major Tonoyan, deputy commander of the contract battalion, informed A1+.
"Occasionally, shots are heard on the borderline and we open a return fire if we find it necessary," he said.
Mr. Tonoyan says no cases of trespassing have been recorded recently. A year ago the mist made a stray contractor appear on the other side of the border. The Azerbaijani side returned the servicemen but unfortunately he was already dead.
This was a single case within ten years. Everyone realizes that they cannot near the border as it is dangerous. If a stray animal happens to appear in the territory of the enemy, it is given back."
Unlike the major, residents of Chambarak depicted the situation differently. They say they are afraid to take the cattle to pastures as Azerbaijanis taken them away.
"The border is two kilometers away from the village. We have only one cow and we don't want it to get into the hands of Azerbaijan," said a local and added that his neighbour was recently threatened to death after he drove a cow to the pasture. Azerbaijanis shot under his feet.
