Advocates' complaint rejected
Armenia's Cassation Court today rejected the complaint of advocates of Nikol Pashinyan, chief editor of Haykakan Zhamanak daily, who was put in prison after the clashes of March 1, 2008.
The advocates were challenging the March 9 decision of the RA Appellate Court and demanded to acquit Pashinyan. The Court of Appeals had upheld the decision of a Yerevan court sentencing Pashinyan to seven years in prison.
The Cassation Court also rejected the prosecutor's request on applying Articles 225 and 316 of the Criminal Court against Pashinyan.
The court found the complaints filed by the advocates and the prosecutor ungrounded and incompliant with the case material.
Pashinyan's advocates are going to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
