Pashinyan’s appeal is formal
The advocates of Haykakan Zhamanak daily chief editor Nikol Pashinyan have filed an appeal to the Cassation Court. The prosecution has also appealed to the Court with a demand to convict Pashinyan under Articles 316 and 225 of the Criminal Code.
"We are convinced that the Court will not take Pashinyan's claim into notice," says Advocate Lusine Sahakyan.
Let us remind that though the prosecutor had requested 6 years' imprisonment for Pashinyan, a Yerevan court sent Pashinyan to 7 years in prison. The Appeals Court left the sentence unchanged.
To A1+'s question whether Pashinyan is more concerned about the charges or sentence term, the advocate said, "The prosecutor has already brought charges under Article 316 but they were rejected. Now prosecutor is challenging the decision. The complaint is purely formal."
"We have already sent a letter to the European Court and now we are waiting for the Cassation Court's decision. I am sorry that Armenians cannot find justice inside the country. I hoped that our country would prosper but I witness the opposite," said the advocate.
