They've given Serzh Sargsyan "for rent"?
"Not all people of Karabakh have square-shaped heads and not everyone has the same hairstyle," this is what head of the "Sociometer" sociological center Aharon Adibekyan found out during another survey in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
This time Adibekyan decided to provide the international community with the opinions of people of Nagorno-Karabakh. All 1,400 participants expressed their views on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Turkish-Armenian relations.
Before releasing the results of the survey, Adibekyan presented a concern expressed by one Nagorno-Karabakh government official. "He told me: ‘We are not scared of Turks or the Azeri. We are scared of ourselves.' He means Armenia. That is a symptom. If that official thinks that way, they can take that concern and put it in the minds of people."
The results of the survey contradict the Nagorno-Karabakh official's concern which Adibekyan didn't reveal today. According to surveys, the people of Nagorno-Karabakh first trust Serzh Sargsyan and then Bako Sahakyan in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. On the one hand, they are afraid that Armenia may take a decision that is not in their interests and on the other hand, they trust Serzh Sargsyan? In response, Adibekyan told "A1+":
"Who do the people of Nagorno-Karabakh view Serzh Sargsyan as? They view him as president of the Defense Council of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic who fought and was in Stepanakert with his family during the bombings. He is viewed as a citizen of Karabakh whom they have temporarily given to Armenia for rent."
Journalists reminded Adibekyan that Robert Kocharyan had also been in Stepanakert during the war.
Based on the results of your survey, Robert Kocharyan was in 4th place after Russian leaders Medvedev and Putin. How would you explain that? In response, Adibekyan told "A1+":
"He is not in power and isn't the one making decisions. There will be no decision coming from him. We are talking about whom the people will trust in making decisions on Nagorno-Karabakh. The important thing is our advice-should Serzh Sargsyan and Bako Sahakyan work together or separately?"
The sociologist is planning to present his version of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement soon. According to him, his version will be based on the results of the surveys from the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. Based on the results, 84.4% of the population is strictly against any mutual concession, 10.3% of people find that the issue must be left as it is and let time tell, while 2.9% believe the liberated lands can be returned in exchange for the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Among the surveyed, 0.2% are not against seeing Nagorno-Karabakh Republic return as a part of Azerbaijan with the maximum sovereignty. Adibekyan predicts that the people expressing this view are generations of mixed marriages or people who used to live well before 1988 and are now in poor social conditions.
