Turkish student is guarding Turkish Embassy in Washington
A number of commemoration events are planned in front of the White House and Turkish Embassy in Washington today. Yesterday Armenians of America held a protest action in front of the White House demanding the USA to recognise the Armenian Genocide.
A Turkish student has been guarding the Turkish Embassy in Washington day and night since April 23.
Mohammad Tavan is sitting in front of the building with a placard: "Thank you America for rejecting Armenian claims."
He promised to prevent Armenians from protesting outside the emebassy building, Anadolu News Agency reports.
Turks are waiting for Obama's speech
These days Turkish poltical circles are discussing whether the U.S. President will utter the word genocide or not. According to Hurryiet daily, some analysts think Obama will not pronounce the word since the USA is Turkey's military partner.
Let's remind that last year in his April 24 address Barack Obama used "Mets Yeghern" while describing the events of April 24, 1915 in order to avoid spoiling Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process.
Statements by Armenian ruling coalition and RA President Serzh Sargsyan on suspension of the Protocols' ratification, signed in Zurich last October gave rise to a new stir in Turkey.
In response to Armenia's decision, Turkey's President Abdullah Gul announced that he did not think the reconciliation process was finally frozen.
"I think we need to establish "serious diplomatic" relations with Yerevan. Moreover, the normalization process is not frozen," said the Turkish president.
A group of Turkish political figures, in particular the Nationalist Movement Party, have urged the country's authorities to recall the Armenian-Turkish protocols.
