Founder of Heritage Party, Armenian parliamentarian Raffi Hovannisian considers the recent developments over the Armenian-Turkish peace process a well-plotted scenario. Serzh Sargsyan's message on the suspension of the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols was agreed upon with countries pursuing their own interest in the issue. Besides, the termination of the peace process gives Turkey time to return to the negotiation table.

"The Armenian-Turkish initiative is a failed attempt that enables Turkey to make use of the situation and exert pressure in the Karabakh issue," Mr. Hovannisian told a press conference on April 23.

"Though the President's speech was correctly formulated, it testifies to wide gulf between words and actions", he added.

"Under the given circumstances, the statement was one that a good tactician would make but not a good strategist. The President's speech was a good one; yet, work remains to be done: Armenia should withdraw its signature from the protocols.

Relying on this fact, Turkey's Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan argues that all signed documents are mandatory and quotes the provisions of the international right.

The current situation is hazardous for Armenia and in order to overcome it with minimum losses Armenian should hold a new election.

"Though our political field is arrogant and egoist, I am hopeful that the opposition and authorities will try to find a solution through an inter-political dialogue and other mechanisms, thus changing Armenia's stance by September," noted Mr. Hovannisian.

The universal recognition of the Armenian Genocide would be much easier but for the reconciliation process. Armenia's decision to terminate the process was a step backward, which enables foreign countries to view the Genocide issue from their personal interests.

Mr. Hovannisian believes that ratification of the protocols will suspend the recognition of the Genocide.
"No matter what an announcement U.S. President makes on April 24, it will speak of Obama's attitude to the history of America," concluded the Heritage founder.
