Meeting with the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan today received the delegation of the European Union led by EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule who is in Armenia on a regional visit.

Welcoming the guest, the Prime Minister said: "You have come to Armenia on an important mission. We have discussed in detail all projects for collaboration with the European Union. We are pleased with the process, but we also understand that there is much to do and that we can do more. The main courses of the Eastern Partnership stated in the document are in the interests of our country and are of primary importance for developments in Armenia."

Stefan Fule thanked Tigran Sargsyan and mentioned that the EU is interested in Armenia's social-economic development. He underlined that the agreement on the establishment of new relations between Armenia and the EU will provide the opportunity to reconsider and evaluate the projects implemented to this day and discuss possible courses for strengthening relations between Armenia and the European Union.

The interlocutors discussed the 2011-2013 National Indicative Program within the framework of the "Eastern Partnership" program. The prime minister praised the program and mentioned that the initiative would contribute to implementation of reforms.
The prime minister prioritized the functioning of democratic structures and effective state administration which will reduce corruption, as well as promote development of small and medium businesses and transparency of large businesses.

As a supreme course, Tigran Sargsyan also underscored the importance of signing an agreement on advanced and comprehensive free trade which presupposes implementation of reforms in the upcoming three years. The third course is the need for taking measures for social-economic reforms and stable development.
The prime minister stressed that the three courses are at the core of the National Indicative Program and are part of the logic of the government's programs. Both sides also praised the activities of the EU Advisory Group in Armenia.
