Co-Chairs visit Stepanakert
The process of the Karabakh conflict settlement is very serious which made the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs pay a regional visit, Russian Co-Chair Yuri Merzlyakov was quoted as saying in Stepanakert.
After a meeting with the Karabakh authorities, the mediators assessed the process of discussion as highly meaningful.
According to Yuri Merzlyakov the proposals made by the Co-Chairs at the end of 2009 are still under discussion. The Armenian side has already disagreed on some points.
"We do not want to complicate the situation as two years ago we witnessed the same approach towards the Madrid Principles: the Armenian side accepted the document, though partially, while Azerbaijan did not. We had to take great efforts to bring the sides to an agreement," said Merzlyakov.
The Russian co-chair added that the sides had disagreed only on four points.
French Co-Chair Bernard Fassier noted that the negotiations over the Madrid Principles are still underway.
"The fact that the sides occasionally agree on this or that provision speaks of the possibility of reaching an agreement," he underlined.
