The 37-th international forum of International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) titled "Justice. Right to Effective Remedy before Independent Jurisdiction. New Challenges" will be held in Yerevan on April 6-8.

A group of Armenian NGOs have addressed a letter to FIDH President Souhayr Belhassen welcoming her statement on the administration of justice in Armenia.

"We are glad that along with other vital issues you raised the issue of political prisoners in Armenia. In particular, you said "FIDH hopes that the Forum will be launched in an Armenia where there are no longer any political prisoners. It is also of utmost importance that credible and effective investigations on the cases of the ten people who were killed in the March 2008 events is opened. Releasing political prisoners and conducting such investigations would be a true sign of moving towards effective Rule of Law in Armenia."

We thank you for focusing on Armenian political prisoners. At the same time we are hopeful that if Armenia fails to free the political prisoners by April 6, the Federation will not hold the forum in the country. Otherwise, the FIDH will contribute to the legitimization of a regime which roughly breaches human rights and carries out political persecution against its citizens. We hope that you will stay loyal to your mission and act in compliance with the word and spirit of your announcement."
