Stepan Demirtchyan excludes rapid settlement
Unlike certain forces affiliated with the Armenian National Congress (HAK), Leader of People's Party of Armenia (HZhK) Stepan Demirtchyan does not expect a rapid breakthrough in the Karabakh conflict settlement.
"A bad regulation of a conflict is better than non-regulation," Stepan Demirtchyan told a press conference on March 10.
The HZhK leader is concerned with the latest developments over the Karabakh conflict and thinks Karabakh must be engaged in the talks.
"Turkey will not ratify the Armenian-Turkish Protocols, especially after the adoption of Resolution 252 by the U.S. Congress House Committee on Foreign Affairs," says the HZhK leader who believes that the resolution will not be approved by the U.S. Congress and President Obama will not pronounce the word "genocide".
When speaking about Armenia's political domain Mr. Demirtchyan noted that the situation could not stabilize unless radical changes were carried out.
"Power change is possible in the country only through political changes which can lead to free and fair elections. Power cannot be changed by force. The idea is inadmissible for us," says Stepan Demirtchyan and adds that all people should "guard" their votes in elections. Only in that case can people struggle against election fraud.
He says the government's recent drive against corruption is imitated as the authorities must start "cleansing" from the upper echelons, hence the struggle is declarative and imitative.
