Prime Minister's meeting
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan today received First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Igor Shuvalov.
The Prime Minister attached importance to Shuvalov's visit to Armenia in the context of strengthening of bilateral relations and expressed confidence that the visit would bring a new sweep to bilateral cooperation. The Prime Minister expressed content with the level of relations in the bilateral and multilateral formats.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Igor Shuvalov said that he attaches importance to issues concerning bilateral cooperation and within the framework of the CIS, underlining cooperation in the spheres of science and innovations. Importance was attached to the ceremonies dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War, as well as other issues of bilateral concern.
Taking into account the fact that 2010 has been declared as the year of science and innovations in the CIS, the interlocutors also touched upon the issue of implementing joint activities and mentioned that both sides are conducting joint studies in biochemistry, neurochemistry, molecular biology, medicinal genetics, chemical physics and other spheres. The sides also discussed the perspectives for development of nuclear medicine and the opening of the Russian-Armenian center for innovations.
Tigran Sargsyan emphasized that the development of advanced technologies is one of the primacies of Armenia's economy and the presence of formed traditions provides great opportunities for deepening the mutually beneficial cooperation.
The Prime Minister stressed that despite the global economic crisis, Armenia has fulfilled all its obligations within the framework of the CIS and the financial investments have been made ahead of schedule. Measures are being taken for implementing the first stage of the Strategy for Economic Development in the CIS.
The interlocutors also touched upon issues relating to collaboration between Russian companies in Armenia and the cooperation in energy, transport and other spheres.
