Visitor to frontier Araks village may think the place is deserted at first sight.

Roaming through the village a whole day we finally met a boy who showed us the house of the village head. The latter turned out to be living in Yerevan.

During a telephone conversation Village Head Avag MIkaelyan explained his absence in the following way: "My son is studying in Yerevan and my family spends the cold winter months in the capital with him. But I live in the village where I have a little farm."

"Villagers usually address to deputy village head Suren Gasparyan with their problems," he added.

The most important problems the village encounters today are connected with gasification and roads which have become almost impassable.

Villagers have to show special permits to be able to cultivate 60-70 arable lands which are on the borderline.

"The point is that villagers are allowed to stay there in the daytime, for a few hours, but there are people who want to work longer but they cannot because of the agreement," said Mr. Gasparyan.

The village has 1872 inhabitants.
