“Protocols conveyed preconditions, anyway”
Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today that Armenian-Turkish relations cannot be normalized unless the Armenian Constitutional Court reconsiders its decision on the Armenian-Turkish Protocols.
ARF-Dashnaktsutyun member Vahan Hovhannisyan today said in this respect: "Erdogan's statement proved that all our fear and concerns over the Protocols were right: the Protocols really conveyed preconditions and the CC decision simply made Turks furious preventing the implementation of the pending preconditions."
"Firstly, Erdogan's statement confirmed that the Armenian FM had wrongly understood the President's instruction. Secondly, the Armenian FM failed to carry out his task taking the negotiations in the wrong direction. The Protocols were somehow neutralized thanks to public protest and outrage. As we see the CC decision has found deep resonance among Turkish officialdom."
