Petition and march
A number of representatives of youth political and non-governmental organizations gathered at "Congress" hotel today for a petition. The motive of the meeting was the massacres of Armenians in Baku on January 13-19, 1990. The youth activists called on people to sign the appeal-letter to be handed to international organizations, as well as parliaments and governments of UN-member countries, political and non-governmental organizations so that there would no longer be any barbarous acts in any corner of the globe.
Baku deportee, president of the "Azeri Armenians Assembly" NGO Grigori Ayvazyan told "A1+": "We demand justice from the entire international community because the current Republic of Azerbaijan was formed on our historical Armenian lands and as a result of the extermination of the indigenous Armenian people."
NA Deputy Karen Avagyan told "A1+" that the goal of their meeting is two-fold: "First, it is to show the international community that the Armenian nation, the Armenian youth are demanding and secondly, the goal is to show that there are youth who are not aware of what happened 20 years ago due to age differences and we must turn them demanding," he said, adding: "I am pleased to say that many youth political organizations, youth and student structures joined our initiative and that goes to show once again that regardless of political views and approaches to different issues, we are capable of uniting as one when it comes time to solve issues of national concern."
Despite the rainy weather, the youth marched toward Tsitsernakaberd memorial after the petition.
President of the student council of the Pedagogical University Volodya Gasparyan reminded the gathered that today also marked the third anniversary of Hrant Dink's death. "I would like to make a reference to the words by Artsakh war hero Movses Georgisyan: ‘Mourning is eternal as long as there is no struggle.' I assure you that there is a struggle and we will fight to stand up for the Armenian Cause and the dreams of the Armenian nation. Long live Armenia of tomorrow. Forward, Armenia."
This received the participants' applause. Participating in the meeting were youth members of the ARF and "Heritage" parties.
