Will the injured be behind bars?
Representative of the Armenian National Congress Tigran Arakelyan has not been called to the police station after his precautionary measure was changed and the criminal case has remained in the same stage," said Tigran Arakelyan's advocate Varduhi Elbakyan.
"If they are reasonable, they will quash the case. I think that they are trying to find an appropriate version of quashing it so that they can make it a little legal. That's my prediction; otherwise, why are they staying silent so long?" the advocate told "A1+".
Tigran Arakelyan had been deprived of his liberty on July 5 and signed his release on October 8, 2009.
Let us remind that on July 1 policemen and representatives of the Armenian National Congress youth wing got into a conflict while the youth were handing out flyers about the Congress rally. The youth, including Tigran Arakelyan, received injuries, but they were later charged with hooliganism under Article 258 of the Criminal Code.
Then, investigator Hrachya Sargsyan restricted the charge and re-qualified it as dangerous attack against a state representative under Part 2 of Article 316. This article foresees 5-10 years in prison.
Tigran Arakelyan told "A1+" that he is not showing up to court because "it will blow up in an hour and the "injured" policeman Eric Poghosyan will be behind bars."
