Gevorg Perkupekyan was introduced as the new chairman of the Social-Democratic (Hnchakyan) Party today. He was elected yesterday by the members of the SDHP during a subsequent assembly convened in Tsakhkadzor.

Lyudmila Sargsyan, who was chairman of the SDHP since 2004, and member of the party Gurgen Yeghiazaryan were removed from the party. Yesterday Lyudmila Sargsyan announced that she didn't consider the assembly in Tsakhkadzor as an assembly and said that she was going to sue the person who would be represented as chairman of the party in Armenia. "Let her sue," said Gevorg Perkupekyan in response to Lyudmila Sargsyan.

There were only four people who expressed lack of confidence to Lyudmila Sargsyan, including Gevorg Perkupekyan, Narek Galstyan, Vardan Khachatryan and Hrant Amiryan.

Narek Galstyan considered the rumors that they have expressed lack of confidence to Lyudmila Sargsyan through cooperation with the government as nonsensical. Galstyan announced that they have no intention of leaving the Armenian National Congress and that he personally is going to participate in the rally to be held on January 8.

Galstyan mentioned that his "Sargis Tkhruni" youth union had expressed lack of confidence to Mrs. Sargsyan a year ago. The people who took the decision to remove Sargsyan from the party charge Sargsyan with isolating herself from members of the party and neutralizing all structures.

"She had turned her issues with Gurgen Yeghiazaryan within the party into a topic for mass media outlets. She presented false charges against members of the Central Committee of the party in the press," said Narek Galstyan.

Galstyan said that Sargsyan's announcement according to which the party's assembly was convened by people who had nothing to do with the party doesn't correspond to reality. "Gevorg Perkupekyan and I are patrimonial Hnchaks." During today's press conference, the Hnchaks declared that there were 51 Hnchaks from different organizations participating in the assembly. They assured that the statement by Mrs. Sargsyan according to which the organizations are not working also didn't correspond to reality.

Why was the assembly in Tsakhkadzor held behind-closed-doors? In response, Narek Galstyan said: "We were discussing issues concerning the party and it only concerned us. There was no opening ceremony during the assembly and that's why we didn't invite the mass media."

The stamp of the SDHP is with Lyudmila Sargyan and the people who expressed lack of confidence know very well that it will not be easy to get it back. Vahan Shirkhanyan, who headed the assembly of the SDHP in Tsakhkadzor, is preparing to hold a press conference tomorrow.
